Milan e Palazzo Reale are getting ready for one of the most awaited exhibtion planned for the autumn that will be open to the public on the October 11th until the 11th Febbraio: El Greco.
An unprecedented exhibition that brings, for the first time to Italy, an important retrospective on one of the most important figures of the late Spanish Renaissance, considered as the initiator of the Siglo de Oro.
El Greco
El Greco, pseudonym of Domínikos Theotokópoulos, was born in Crete in 1541.
He moved to Venice inl 1567 starting his stay in Italy which led him to compare himself with artists such as Tiziano, Bassano e Tintoretto.
El Greco got inspired by Tintoretto, changing his painting style adding elements from Mannerism and Venetian Renaissance.
In 1577 El Greco left Italy for Toledo, Spain, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.

The exhibition was born following the in-depth research into the stages of the painter’s life and offers a new key to reading and interpreting it.
The exhibition itinerary presents over 40 artworks and important international loans.
The years in Italy inevitably return to the exhibition and with them the influence that artists such as Titian, Correggio or Michelangelo had on him.
Another theme, addressed in the exhibition is the change in scale of the artworks, initially small and then gradually bigger.
The Milan exhibition is divided into five main thematic areas: A crossroads, Dialogues with Italy, Painting sanctity, The icon again, the Laooconte, this last section is dedicated to the only mythological work created by artist.
