With September, our must-see exhibitions return.

We head to Milano with an itinerary that starts with Bruce Nauman and ends with Arnaldo Pomodoro: here are five unmissable exhibitions in the city.

Bruce Nauman Neon Corridors Rooms at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca until February 26

Bruce Nauman Neon Corridors Rooms is on display at the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca until February 26, 2023. Bruce Nauman, one of the leading figures in contemporary art since the mid-1960s, employs various media such as installations, video, sculpture, performance, photography, drawing, and sound. His work primarily seeks to understand human experience and the deeper conventions of the psyche.
Bruce Nauman Neon Corridors Rooms is organized in collaboration with Tate Modern in London and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam: the exhibition will include a selection of his famous corridors and rooms, exploring for the first time in their entirety the experiments Nauman conducted regarding spatial experience, architectural approach, use of light, sound, language, and video.

Aldo Rossi Design 1960 – 1997 at Museo del Novecento until October 2

The Museo del Novecento in Milano presents Aldo Rossi. Design 1960-1997 in collaboration with the Aldo Rossi Foundation and Silvana Editoriale. The exhibition, open until October 2, showcases for the first time, in a spectacular journey, 350 prototypes and models, distilled, designed, and studied, created by Aldo Rossi from 1960 to 1997, a true visual testimony of his work as a designer, architect, and theorist.

Rossi developed over 70 furnishings and objects in nearly 10 years of work, experimenting with shapes and colors using metal and wood, marble and stone, ceramics and porcelain, textiles and industrial materials, and plastics.
The exhibition, with a setup project signed by Morris Adjmi – MA Architects, a collaborator of Rossi in New York, narrates the universe of Aldo Rossi in the new display: it represents a world where the relationship between graphic arts and artistic and industrial products emerges, with references to all of Rossi’s architectures and private spaces.

Magnum Photos Colors, Places, Faces at Armani Silos until November 6

Magnum Photos Colors, Places, Faces at Armani/Silos until November 6, is a composite and multifaceted narrative that reflects between art, journalism, and storytelling. Curated by Giorgio Armani in collaboration with Magnum Photos, the exhibition offers an eclectic perspective through the lens of ten international photographers and their respective interpretations of photography: from the China of Christopher Anderson, to the Dubai of Olivia Arthur; from the Morocco of Bruno Barbey, to the New York of Werner Bischof; from the architectures of René Burri, to the coastlines that blur the line between land and water captured by Harry Gruyaert; from the sharp dissection of English life by Martin Parr, to Tokyo and Venice immortalized by Gueorgui Pinkhassov; from the everyday life of Iran depicted by Newsha Tavakolian, to the saturated colors of Latin America and the Caribbean by Alex Webb.

Magnum Photos Colors, Places, Faces takes us on a colorful journey through worlds and cultures near and far, transfigured by each of the artists through a personal vision. “It is the attention to reality that fascinates me about their photographs, never simple reports and all so different from one another,” declared Giorgio Armani.

Magistretti Revisited at the Vico Magistretti Studio Museum Foundation until December 22

The Vico Magistretti Studio Museum Foundation presents the exhibition Magistretti Revisited, which tells the story of Vico Magistretti, a renowned architect and designer, in his Milanese studio and his connection with the city of Milan, which he loved deeply yet also criticized harshly. Then, his studio where Vico worked throughout his life and the archive downstairs.

Milan, the studio, and the archive are narrated through the drawings and objects of Magistretti, in a setup that attempts to synthesize and reinterpret the original atmosphere of the place where Vico and Franco Montella spent their days. Visitors are also guided by the words of Magistretti (drawn from interviews, notes, reports) presented as enlargements of the pages of his notebook, as if the setup became a large notebook in which to immerse oneself.

The Beginning of Time: The Spatial Research of Arnaldo Pomodoro
at the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation until December 18

The Beginning of Time: The Spatial Research of Arnaldo Pomodoro at the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation opens a new cycle of Open Studio in the artist’s studio.

The protagonist of the first Open Studio is The Beginning of Time No. 2, a large bas-relief restored in 2021. Here, Pomodoro explores the spatial development of a surface no longer structured by the sign-like writings that characterize his early works, but concrete and substantial, animated by a gestural and absolute mark.

Alongside The Beginning of Time, a group of sculptures, drawings, and design studies are also on display in a setup that narrates the birth of the work and the period of activity between 1957 and 1964, culminating in the Great Homage to Technological Civilization for the facade of the University of Cologne.
