Caravaggio 2025 is at Palazzo Barberini in Rome from March 7 to July 6, 2025.

The National Galleries of Ancient Art, in collaboration with Galleria Borghese, present at Palazzo Barberini Caravaggio 2025.

The exhibition of the year: Caravaggio 2025

Caravaggio 2025 is undoubtedly one of the most important exhibitions of the year: a project among the most ambitious ever dedicated to Michelangelo Merisi.

Caravaggio 2025 therefore brings to Rome an exceptional number of autographed paintings and a journey through works that are usually not available to the public.

At Palazzo Barberini, you will find some of the most famous works, alongside others that are less known but equally significant.

The paintings on display: exceptional loans

Among the works included in Caravaggio 2025, the Portrait of Maffeo Barberini, for the first time displayed alongside other paintings by Merisi, and the Ecce Homo, on loan from the Prado Museum in Madrid, returning to Italy for the first time in centuries.

The loans are truly exceptional: the Saint Catherine from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, a masterpiece that was once in the Barberini collections and is thus returning home, and also Martha and Mary from the Detroit Institute of Arts, for which the artist portrayed the same model as the Judith preserved at Palazzo Barberini, all displayed together for the first time.

The exhibition will also be the opportunity to see together again the three paintings commissioned by the banker Ottavio Costa, Judith and Holofernes from Palazzo Barberini, the Saint John the Baptist from the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, and the Saint Francis in Ecstasy from the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art in Hartford, along with works related to the history of the Barberini collection, such as the Bari from the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth.

Completing the selection is the important loan granted by Intesa Sanpaolo: The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, the last painting by Merisi, created shortly before his death.
