We welcome the month of July with our selection of five must-see exhibitions.

Isgrò cancels Brixia at the Museo di Santa Giulia until January 8, 2023

Emilio Isgrò, until January 8, 2023, is exhibiting at the Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia with Isgrò cancels Brixia, curated by Marco Bazzini.

The exhibition, further proof of the bond between the artist and the city, aims to emphasize the dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art, between history and the present, between classical culture and its persistence in our time with works, all of environmental dimensions, specifically conceived and created by the artist for this occasion, in close dialogue with the evocative spaces that host them.

Isgrò cancels Brixia starts from the central hall of the Capitolium, featuring the work The Bees of Virgil: this is a digital installation, where a multitude of flying bees will erase the inscriptions present on the Roman epigraphs placed on the wall.

The Museo di Santa Giulia will also host The Harmonium of the Mad Larks, the Casta diva from Norma by Vincenzo Bellini, one of the most powerful works of the Italian lyrical tradition, set in Roman Gaul. This absolutely unprecedented work was created by the Fondazione Brescia Musei in co-production with Arte Sella.

The exhibition halls of the Museo di Santa Giulia will also host an unpublished cycle of paintings titled Brixia as Athens. Thirteen large canvases where the illustrated pages of a book on the daily life of an ancient Greek polis have been erased in white, among these works we remember: The Light of the Agora, The Laziness of the Discobolus, After Marathon and The Columns of Aphrodite.

In Fabula Restored Masterpieces from the Bigongiari Collection at the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi until September 25, 2022

IN FABULA. Restored Masterpieces from the Bigongiari Collection is the ongoing exhibition at the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi until September 25, 2022.

IN FABULA. Restored Masterpieces from the Bigongiari Collection offers a masterful glimpse into 17th-century Florentine painting, thanks to a core of recently restored paintings from the collection of Piero Bigongiari, poet, writer, and fervent collector.
Ten works are on display, with restorations carried out by Intesa Sanpaolo. IN FABULA allows for the rediscovery of the elements of novelty that emerged during the restorations and the connection between the works and the collector through these ten paintings. The exhibition is divided into nine rooms. Among the artists featured are: Francesco Furini, Felice Ficherelli, Giovanni Martinelli, Simone Pignoni.

IN FABULA is for Pistoia Musei a declaration of intent and is part of a broader process of returning these masterpieces to the territory and the Pistoia community.

Genova Sessanta at the Palazzo Reale di Genova until July 31, 2022

Genova Sessanta is on display at the Palazzo Reale di Genova until July 31, 2022.

Genova Sessanta is curated by Alessandra Guerrini and Luca Leoncini with Benedetto Besio, Luisa Chimenz, Leo Lecci, and Elisabetta Papone.

The protagonist of Genova Sessanta is the Ligurian city and the profound changes it experienced in the 1960s following the emergence of new ideas and renewed cultural stimuli, significant social changes, economic innovations, and new languages that marked an acceleration in visual arts production.

Genova, in the post-war period, fully experiences the momentum and excitement of the great Italian economic boom and looks to the future with, for example, industrialization and new communication arteries. The city transforms, fostering creativity in all sectors, from art to design, music, culture, and economy.

Genova Sessanta is an exciting journey into Genova of the 1960s seen through the eyes of great photographers such as Lisetta Carmi and Giorgio Bergami but also – and above all – with drawings of architecture, design furnishings, advertising graphics, industrial objects, paintings, and sculptures by leading figures, from Lucio Fontana to Andy Warhol, from Mimmo Rotella to Vico Magistretti, from Gio Ponti to Franco Albini, from Angelo Mangiarotti to Eugenio Carmi.

Interact brings together collective actions and participatory projects carried out on-site, such as the creation of a collective garden on the terrace of the Kunsthaus or the reenactment of Daniel Spoerri’s “eat art performance” Zehn Suppenrezepte, performed in the 1980s in Brunnenburg, near Merano.
