August has arrived, and with it, we present to you five unmissable exhibitions to visit.

ICONS at the Palazzetto Baviera in Senigallia until September 16, 2022

Among the exhibitions in August is ICONS at the Palazzetto Baviera in Senigallia until September 16.

The first-floor rooms host the exhibition that showcases the photography of Elliot Erwitt through seventy of his most famous shots, depicting a slice of history and culture of the 20th century.

The photographs on display have been selected by the curator Biba Giacchetti, along with Erwitt himself, who is unanimously regarded as one of the most important photographers of the century.

The exhibition path narrates his long professional life through his most celebrated photographs: portraits of Che Guevara, Kerouac, Marlene Dietrich, and the great movie stars, with Marilyn Monroe being a standout. Additionally, the shots that made history, such as the debate between Nixon and Khrushchev, Kennedy’s funeral, and the great match between Frazier and Ali.

There are also the most beloved icons by the public for their romantic strength, such as the California Kiss, the photograph capturing the reflection in a rearview mirror of a couple kissing inside a car. A photo that Erwitt confirmed was taken purely by chance and not staged, as some have thought. Additionally, there are the more intimate and private photographs, such as that of his newborn first daughter, observed on the bed by her mother, along with a collection of self-portraits that illustrates how Erwitt enjoys poking fun at himself.

Together at Kunst Merano Arte until September 25, 2022

Among the exhibitions of August, one cannot miss TOGETHER at the Kunst Merano Arte.

At the center of its programming is the theme of community, which holds a central significance for contemporary society.

The different forms of community are explored in the collective exhibition from various perspectives, through the works of Adrian Piper, Anna Maria Maiolino, Ari Benjamin Meyers, Bart Heynen, Brave New Alps and MAGARI, Christian Niccoli, Daniel Spoerri, Francis Alÿs, Franz Erhard Walther, Hannes Egger, Isabell Kamp, Jivan Frenster, Karin Schmuck, Marina Abramović and Ulay, melanie bonajo, Norma Jeane, Officinadïdue, Rirkrit Tiravanija, SPIT!, Tania Bruguera, and Yoko Ono.

In the exhibition, the audience is repeatedly invited to leave their “comfort zone” and take on active roles together. These interactive and sometimes participatory aspects are articulated in three sections:

Interact brings together collective actions and participatory projects carried out on-site, such as the creation of a collective garden on the terrace of the Kunsthaus or the reenactment of the “eat art performance” by Daniel Spoerri Zehn Suppenrezepte, originally performed in the 1980s in Brunnenburg, near Merano.
