The MAXXI National Museum of the arts is hosting the exhibition BOB DYLAN Retrospectrum.
Born in 1941, the artist is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest musicians, singer-songwriters, poets, and literary figures.
A winner of the most prestigious awards in arts and culture, from the Pulitzer to the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016, Dylan arrives in Rome with a traveling exhibition previously displayed at the MAM in Shanghai and the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami.

Retrospectrum and Bob Dylan the Painter
Bob Dylan Retrospectrum is dedicated to the visual art works of one of the most important icons of contemporary world culture.
In the spaces of the Roman museum, there are 100 works including paintings, watercolors, ink and graphite drawings, metal sculptures, video material, exploring over 50 years of creative activity by the artist.

Bob Dylan. Retrospectrum offers various perspectives that examine the human condition and explore those mysteries of life that continue to leave us perplexed.
In the exhibition, alongside the texts that have made music history, there is also Bob Dylan the Painter.
The exhibited works highlight the motifs of Dylan’s musician imagination. His visual art tells, as he himself states: “the American landscape as seen while crossing the country, observing it for what it is.”
Dylan Paints America
The subjects of his paintings are the great metropolises, barren and vast landscapes, railway tracks, open roads, cars, trucks, gas stations, motels, shacks, bars, shops, yards, billboards, neon signs.
In a word, there is America, portrayed in its deepest version of itself.
I choose the images for what they mean to me – he writes. These paintings have the realism of the moment, archaic, static for the most part, but still infused with a tremor.
They are the world I see or choose to see, of which I am a part or into which I enter. In any case, this is my work.
