From February 22, 2025 to January 11, 2026, at the Muse of Trento, you can visit the exhibition Food Sound The Hidden Sound of Food, conceived and curated by Vincenzo Guarnieri with Chiara Quartero and with the scientific supervision of Massimiliano Zampini – CIMEC.
Food Sound investigates the role of hearing in our food experience, analyzing in greater depth what is, among the five senses, the most underrated in the context of food.
But how are hearing and food connected?
It’s science!
Thanks to scientific research, we can affirm that the sounds produced during meal preparation and food consumption influence our way of relating to the social and environmental context in which we live.
The connection between hearing and food has become the subject of investigations in psychology, anthropology, neuroscience, and sociology, leading to numerous studies that are also useful for defining the marketing strategies of agri-food companies.
In short, hearing is a key element in shaping our food perceptions, capable of generating emotions and influencing our purchasing choices and habits.

Food for Sound, the exhibition
The exhibition unfolds in five thematic sections through an immersive, integrated, and three-dimensional installation where sounds take center stage: physical and real sounds, but also whispered, imagined, and perceived sounds.
Thematic sections
Prologue: What are sounds, how do we perceive them, and how does our brain reprocess them.
The kitchen: A sound immersion in the kitchen: what memories do these sounds evoke?
The restaurant street: From the trattoria with the classic checkered tablecloth to the starred restaurant, from fast food to street food, from the dark restaurant to the restaurant of the future: how do sounds influence our culinary experience?
The market of illusions: How do sounds impact our purchases and consumption methods? How do they contribute to creating our perception of food? An invitation to challenge oneself and make food choices based solely on listening.
Scientific whispers: An invitation to settle into comfortable seating and surrender to ASMR tracks that whisper to us the neuroscientific research of what has been experienced in the other sections.
The exhibition offers a participatory, collective, and community dimension that takes shape around shared food experiences, but also an individual, intimate enjoyment that invites reflection on one’s personal relationship with food.
