Francesco Morosini: the man and the commander
Francesco Morosini was born in Venice, from a noble family, on February 26, 1619.
He was the undisputed protagonist of the history of the Serenissima.
He was elected four times as Captain General of the Sea and his courageous military actions quickly became known, leading him to victory without ever being defeated.
Elected Doge on April 3, 1688, he remained at the head of the Serenissima until 1694.
According to what has been passed down to us, Morosini was a complex figure, subject to alternating judgments from his contemporaries.
On one hand, he certainly went down in history as a great commander, while on the other, he also proved to be an arrogant man and extremely vain.

Francesco Morosini: the last hero of the Serenissima
The Civic Museums have the great privilege of preserving the entire personal and family heritage of the Doge, coming from the family palace in Campo Santo Stefano.
Of this heritage, in 1952, following the reorganization by Carlo Scarpa, a reasoned selection was placed in the post-war period in the Correr Museum.

In the rooms of the Correr Museum dedicated to the exhibition “Francesco Morosini: the last hero of the Serenissima between history and myth”, with over two hundred pieces on display, the personal, political, and military history of the sea captain, doge, and “Peloponnesian” unfolds.
The aforementioned Morosini Rooms are two, here the path fills ten, with a significant part of the entire Morosini collection held by the Civic Museums displayed in a reasoned and engaging path.
