Anish Kapoor is among the most famous and acclaimed contemporary artists today.
Kapoor was born in India in 1954, but at the age of nineteen he moved to England where he began studying art.
Thus, he develops the central themes in his artistic journey: the androgynous, the female-male dichotomy, sexuality, sculpture in tune with some research from the sixties, such as Arte Povera or the work of Joseph Beuys.
The works of Kapoor are now exhibited in major museums around the world and are also placed in many cities, outdoors, available to anyone.
The Artistic Research
Anish Kapoor works with pigments drawn from Indian decorative tradition, with stones or large concave structures, with his reflective metal sculptures, between solidity and transparency, between geometric and organic, between full and empty, redefining and expanding the concept of sculpture in art.
Kapoor’s artistic research thus intensifies and deepens binary relationships, opposing energies, the antitheses that constitute the visible world and abstract thought through a vision that unites opposing forces and dynamics.

Dark Brother
Dark Brother is a work by Kapoor created in 2005 exhibited at the Madre Museum in Naples.
In the hollow on the floor, Kapoor directs the viewer’s gaze towards infinity and towards the bowels of the earth. Again, it is always the opposites that take center stage.

Whether it is light and shadow, negative and positive, male and female, material and immaterial, inside and outside, full and empty, concave and convex, shiny and matte, smooth and rough, natural and artificial, rigid and soft, solid and liquid, active and inert, order and disorder, these are always characteristics of the human universe.
