The National Landscape Day
The exhibition The Apulian Landscape in the Collections of the Metropolitan Art Gallery of Bari: the Awareness of an Identity, inaugurated on March 15 and open until May 30, pays tribute to the National Landscape Day.
Established five years ago by the then Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, with the aim of promoting the culture of landscape in all its forms and raising citizens’ awareness on related issues, the National Landscape Day is celebrated this year by the Pinacoteca di Bari.

On this occasion, the Pinacoteca offers digitally, in accordance with current regulations regarding the containment and management of the epidemiological emergency, a selection of fifty works from its collection, focused on the theme of the Apulian landscape titled – The Apulian Landscape in the Collections of the Metropolitan Art Gallery of Bari: the Awareness of an Identity.
It begins with the painting On the Ofanto by Giuseppe De Nittis, an unavoidable reference point for the painters who, after him, would tackle this theme of strong identity as it is anchored to the places, and continues with the Apulian countryside in its various articulations, with airy seascapes inspiring a large number of painters including, among others – besides Damaso Bianchi, Francesco Romano, and Enrico Castellaneta – Francesco Vacca, Vito Stifano, Francesco Speranza, Vincenzo Ciardo, Ennio Marzano, Sergio Nicolò De Bellis, Pasquale Morino, Luigi Russo.

Alongside the landscapes, the exhibition also features urban views in an exciting identity journey that associates the rediscovery of one’s land with an unquenchable need to safeguard and enhance the artistic and natural heritage.
