Faenza is known internationally for the production of ceramics and majolica, commonly referred to as Faience. The city began its artistic and architectural development as early as the Renaissance and continued through the Baroque period, eventually becoming a reference point for Neoclassicism both in Italy and Europe.

The MIC, an expression of ceramic culture worldwide

Faenza is home to the MIC – International Museum of Ceramics, which is one of the largest and most renowned in the field: UNESCO has recognized the MIC as an expression of ceramic art in the world and included it among the sites promoting cultures of peace.

Here, works from various parts of the world are displayed: Syria, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, South America, and the Far East, with a collection that includes approximately 60,000 works, both ancient and contemporary, exhibited within almost 15,000 square meters of museum space.

The MIC is a true excellence in the national landscape, as evidenced by the incomparable masterpieces it houses: Italian Renaissance ceramics, works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Léger, Burri, Fontana, and countless other artists.

The Museum also carries out numerous activities related to its artistic mission: it hosts a Historical Library, containing over 60,000 texts on ceramics, a Restoration Laboratory, photographic and documentary archives, and clay experiences at the Play with Art Educational Laboratory, founded by Bruno Munari, along with guided tours.

A museum for everyone

With the aim of making ceramic culture even more participatory and inclusive, the MIC launches the fundraising project A MUSEUM FOR EVERYONE.

The funds raised will be essential for the organization, by the Play with Ceramics department – founded by Munari himself – of new workshops for all students, delving even deeper into the cultural traditions of the various regions included in the museum’s journey, such as Africa, North Africa, China, and the Middle East.

A MUSEUM FOR EVERYONE also aims to enhance the visit paths dedicated to the most vulnerable individuals, including those with physical and cognitive disabilities.

For this reason, copies have been specially made to allow visits for blind or visually impaired individuals. Additionally, once completed, Braille texts will be added, and guided tours can be followed in sign language via a tablet or smartphone.

MIC – A museum for everyone

A noble project that helps people, particularly the most vulnerable, to express themselves in peace, improving their emotional state: through manipulation, the creative gesture, and guided play by an expert, they can enhance their well-being.

The MIC, already inextricably linked to its territory, through A Museum for Everyone further positions itself as a supporter of a participatory and shared museum concept.
