Who was Chagall<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Chagall<\/a><\/strong> was born on 7 July 1887<\/strong> in Belarus<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

After spending a period of his life in St. Petersburg,<\/strong> he moved to Paris<\/strong> which would become his adopted city and a fundamental place for the development of his art.<\/p>\n\n

Years later, referring to the French capital, he would say: “just like a plant needs water, so my art needed Paris”.<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

An artwork in exile<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Dans mon pays <\/strong> was realized during Chagall<\/strong> and his family exile in the United States <\/strong> due to the increasingly insistent Nazi-fascist persecutions in Europe which forced many artists to move overseas. <\/p>\n\n

Chagall<\/strong> arrives in the States<\/strong> in 1941 invited by theMuseum of Modern Art in New Yor<\/strong>k, in America<\/strong> he meets many fellow artists who escaped the war such as Mondrian or Andr\u00e9 Breton.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

He immediately began exhibiting artworks in American galleries and museums,<\/strong> as well as creating sets for ballets with the music of the most famous Russian composers, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

Dans mon pays <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The themes that Chagall<\/strong> proposes in his artistic career are also found in Dans mon pays.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

He, who has always been connected to his native land and its landscapes, recalls its image thanks to a Russian village covered in snow and wrapped in a delicate nocturnal atmosphere<\/strong> in shades of blue and light blue, which highlight its suspension in space and time.. <\/p>\n\n

At the center of the picture stands out the full moon,<\/strong> which envelops every element of the painting in a dreamlike atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n

In Chagall’s<\/strong> blue sky there is a cow<\/strong> in flight, the blue shape<\/strong> of a mysterious horse<\/strong> and the bizarre hen<\/strong> with the head of a man. <\/p>\n\n

Likewise in many other paintings, Chagall<\/strong> portrays himself suspended from the ground embraced by his wife, Bella. <\/p>\n\n

In some ways the artwork<\/a> is similar to another performed in 1944, entitled “The green eye”,<\/strong> in which, however, a large disturbing and surreal eye stands out and dominates the scene.<\/p>\n\n
