Sirani : a paintress<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Elisabetta Sirani<\/strong> \u00e8 stata una pittrice italiana vissuta a met\u00e0 del ‘600<\/strong>, figlia del pittore Giovanni Andrea Sirani,<\/strong> primo assistente di Guido Reni<\/strong> e mercante d’arte. <\/p>\n\n

Elisabetta studied with her sisters, Barbara and Anna Maria<\/strong> at their father\u2019s school where she showed such a great talent realizing some portraits when she was still very young, only 17 years old.<\/p>\n\n

Sadly, Elisabetta<\/strong> died at 27 y.o<\/strong>. but, despite of her short life, were attributed to her a quite rich amount of artworks with also some more recent findings, proving her intense artistic activity.<\/p>\n\n

Success in life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

To her were attributed 200 artworks<\/strong>: a huge amount of masterpieces that might seem unrealistic considering that she worked only for ten years We don\u2019t know the exact number of paintings made, it has been found a list that she drew when she was already famous and with a launched career.<\/p>\n\n

She was a successful paintress<\/strong> in life.<\/p>\n\n

In spite of the artistic environment of the time was considered a male prerogative and didn\u2019t tolerate the presence of female protagonists, Elisabetta<\/strong> realized many of her artworks in public and in the presence of her patrons, including prominent personalities such as the Medici, the Duchess of Parma and that of Bavaria.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

Madonna with Child and San Giovannino<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n

The painting “Madonna with Child and San Giovannino<\/strong>“, now in Palazzo Mosca<\/a><\/strong> in Pesaro<\/strong>, is one of the last made by the artist who died the following year.<\/p>\n\n

As proof of this, the artwork bears the words \u201cElisa Sirani 1664\u201d<\/strong> on the edge of the neckline of the Virgin’s dress. <\/p>\n\n

Madonna with Child and San Giovannino<\/strong> is preceded by a drawing now in the Louvre.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

The latter does not have the figure of the San Giovannino<\/strong> and presents some other variants, but the work welcomes the renewal that marked the last years of Sirani<\/strong>‘s work, reinvigorating the chiaroscuro contrasts and reaffirming the Baroque aspect in her artistic production.<\/p>\n\n

Style<\/strong> and influences<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n

Elisabetta<\/strong> Sirani<\/strong> belonged to Baroque movement<\/strong> known as the Bolognese School.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

Bologna<\/a><\/strong>, at the time, stood out for welcoming a large number of female artists. <\/p>\n\n

The Sirani<\/strong> studio itself was frequented by many women, so much so that the influences and contaminations due to the collaboration among students are visible in Sirani<\/strong>‘s artworks. <\/p>\n\n

Elisabetta Sirani<\/strong> was then educated by her father, Guido Reni<\/a><\/strong> and, even earlier, Raphael.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Later on, with less influences of her masters, she developed her own style, more naturalistic and realistic, closer to the sensitivity of Guercino and the Venetian school,<\/strong> with a sort of emotional dialogue that seems to establish itself between the artist and the subject of her artworks.<\/p>\n\n
