Palazzo Strozzi<\/a><\/strong> is going digital with Let\u2019s Get Digital!<\/a><\/strong>, an exhibition curated by Arturo Galansino,<\/strong> General Director, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi<\/strong> and Serena Tabacchi,<\/strong> Director of MoCDA, Museum of Contemporary Digital Art in London. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition,<\/strong> open until July 31, 2022,<\/strong> describes the digital revolution in art that has experienced an impressive acceleration in recent years, thanks to the rise of the infamous NFTs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s Get Digital at Palazzo Strozzi<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi<\/strong> is a celebration of a new way of making art that has recently impacted even the most traditional markets, such as galleries and auction houses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a \u201cphysical\u201d art that could be considered elitist in some respects, we have transitioned to digital art, which is more accessible and democratic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museums could not escape such a change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palazzo Strozzi<\/strong>, which had already experimented with digital art both with JR<\/strong> and with the exhibition \u201cAlter Eva. Nature Power Body\u201d<\/strong> in 2021, with Let\u2019s Get Digital!<\/strong> showcases six of the leading interpreters of the Crypto Art movement: Refik Anadol, Anyma, Daniel Arsham, Beeple, Krista Kim, and Andr\u00e9s Reisinger.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic Florentine palace makes its rooms available, allowing works created to be experienced through computer or mobile device to find – and succeed perfectly in finding – their installation dimension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To better understand the innovative aspect of the exhibition in Florence, Let’s Get Digital<\/strong>, it is necessary to take a step back and pause to understand what NFTs<\/strong> are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The acronym NFT<\/strong> stands for Non-Fungible Tokens,<\/strong> which translates into Italian as Non-Fungible Digital Tokens<\/strong>, identifying them in simpler terms as non-reproducible or replaceable digital certificates. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An NFT<\/strong> can therefore be associated with any product on the Internet, whether it is a video, a photo, a GIF, a text, an article, an audio, or a work of art.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection of NFTs<\/strong> is stored within the Blockchain<\/strong>, a digital ledger where transactions of all those data that cannot be altered, manipulated, or deleted are recorded. The transition from NFTs<\/strong> to Crypto Art<\/strong> was swift, indeed immediate: in the art world, the possibility of auctioning digital artworks<\/strong> has opened up, with buyers acquiring them for hundreds, thousands, or even millions of euros. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because buying Crypto Art<\/strong> primarily guarantees the ability to claim a right over that work, through so-called smart contracts<\/strong>, which are \u201cintelligent contracts\u201d that automate payment upon the occurrence of a specific condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
