Nineteenth Century on Display<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the <\/a>GAM \u2013 Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin<\/a><\/strong> the exhibition Ottocento<\/strong><\/a> GAM Collections from the Unification of Italy to the Dawn of the Twentieth Century<\/strong> opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition<\/strong> draws works directly from the vault<\/strong> of the Museum to present to the public both the masterpieces of the 19th century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The display<\/strong> thus offers the opportunity to admire all those works<\/strong> housed on the second floor<\/strong> of the building along with others that have been recently restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nineteenth Century<\/a><\/strong> includes seventy-one works<\/strong> among paintings, pastels, large charcoal drawings, marble sculptures<\/strong>, delicate plasters and waxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the exhibition path, you can find renowned masterpieces<\/strong> such as After the Duel<\/strong> by Antonio<\/strong> Mancini<\/strong>, The Ivy<\/strong> by Tranquillo Cremona<\/strong>, or The Mirror of Life<\/strong> by Pellizza da Volpedo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with them, there are also works never exhibited before, but which in the Nineteenth Century<\/strong> were considered true gems of the modern collection of the Museum: Here is Jerusalem!<\/strong> by Enrico Gamba<\/strong>, or Nobles on a Journey<\/strong> by Francesco Gonin<\/strong>, which, thanks to the research conducted for the exhibition, regains its title: The Guide. Study of Chestnuts from Life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The path<\/strong> is further enriched with additional meaning,<\/strong> establishing a dialogue between the noble tradition of figure painting<\/strong> and the novelty of landscape research<\/strong> which, in their most free and experimental expressions, were the subject of harsh criticism from the conservative press and the academic institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eight thematic sections<\/strong> guide the visitor through the exhibition path: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birth of a Collection, New Sensibilities and Research<\/strong>, Landscape Painting at the Civic Museum,<\/strong> From Scapigliatura to Divisionism<\/strong> and Symbolist Research between Painting and Sculpture. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition<\/strong> also presents a useful insight into the context of the Unification of Italy<\/strong>, which was characterized by a particular artistic, political, and cultural fervor<\/strong> that animated especially Piedmont<\/strong>, during which Turin<\/strong> was elected capital and remained so until 1865 when the title was moved first to Florence<\/strong> and then definitively to Rome<\/strong> in 1871.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to this scenario, the exhibition path<\/strong> delves into trends,<\/strong> pictorial styles, insights, and social habits of the time<\/strong>, focusing on the moments of transition that greatly influenced the artists of that historical period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
