Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado<\/a> <\/strong>is one of the greatest photographers<\/strong> of our time and is the star of the exhibition Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado. Amaz\u00f4nia<\/a><\/strong>, at the MAXXI<\/a> <\/strong>in Rome<\/strong>, until August 21, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city is the only Italian stop of the photographic project<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

He was born in Brazil<\/strong> on February 8, 1944, but has lived in Paris<\/strong> for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salgado <\/strong>studied economics and statistics and decided to fully dedicate himself to photography relatively late, after a mission in Africa<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humanist photographer<\/strong>, he focuses particularly on capturing socially relevant aspects and broad themes<\/strong> such as workers’ rights, poverty, and the destructive effects of market economy in developing countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salgado<\/strong> spends months, sometimes even years, traveling around the world to realize his projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case, it involves a total of 200 shots<\/strong> collected over six years, during which he immersed himself in the most remote areas of the Amazon rainforest<\/strong> to capture and testify to the beauty of these places and the populations that inhabit them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The Amaz\u00f4nia rainforest<\/strong> covers about 60% of the South American continent, an area larger than the entire European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is divided into various sections that gather the main elements of the forest: the rivers, the mountains, the storms, and of course the populations that inhabit it<\/strong> such as the Aw\u00e1-Guaj\u00e1, the Yawanaw\u00e1, the Yanomami communities, the Ashaninka, and the Korubo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
