It’s time for Naples<\/a><\/strong> to present its five must-see exhibitions<\/strong>, starting with a tribute at the Madre<\/strong> to Lawrence Carroll<\/strong>, an artist who passed away prematurely three years ago; at Capodimonte<\/a><\/strong> featuring Caravaggio<\/a> <\/strong> and Caracciolo<\/strong>, and at Palazzo Reale<\/strong> with Don Quixote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the National Archaeological Museum<\/a><\/strong>, the “Megalithic Sardinia<\/a>“<\/strong> exhibition is also arriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawrence Carroll at the Madre – Museum of Contemporary Art Donnaregina<\/strong> until September 5, 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Madre – Museum of Contemporary Art Donnaregina in Naples<\/a><\/strong> dedicates its first major retrospective to Lawrence Carroll<\/a><\/strong>, three years after his passing. The Lawrence Carroll<\/strong> exhibition, open until September 5<\/strong>, is curated by Gianfranco Maraniello<\/strong> and explores the history and figure of the artist of Australian origins but naturalized American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of his career, Lawrence Carroll <\/strong> moved to New York<\/strong> where, working as a graphic designer and illustrator, he created his first works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition displays 80 works <\/strong>created from 1985<\/strong> onwards, arranged in a path that privileges the relationships of the works with space and emotions over the paralyzing chronological or thematic classification.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carroll <\/strong>considered the canvases as bodies that bear the marks of experience, wounds, and scars. Being bodies, they also have volumes and often extend beyond the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MADRE <\/strong>exhibits smaller works, such as the two boots<\/a><\/strong>, and others that are larger. However, they all share the slow and relentless breath of time<\/strong> and reflect Carroll’s mastery in combining the powerful physicality of each work with the quality and luminosity of his painting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don Quixote between Naples, Caserta, and the Quirinale: the cartoons and tapestries at the Royal Palace of Naples until September 6, 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Royal Palace of Naples <\/a><\/strong>presents the exhibition \u201c Don Quixote between Naples, Caserta, and the Quirinale: the cartoons and tapestries<\/a><\/strong> \u201d: a reconstruction of the history of the series of tapestries depicting Stories of Don Quixote<\/strong> executed by the Neapolitan manufacture between 1757 and 1779<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is curated by Mario Epifani <\/strong>and Encarnaci\u00f3n S\u00e1nchez Garc\u00eda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Gallery of the Genovese<\/strong> and in the room XXIV of the Historical Apartment<\/strong>, 38 cartoons<\/strong> are displayed alongside 7 tapestries<\/strong> belonging to the series executed by the Neapolitan manufacture<\/strong> in two phases between 1757 and 1779 to furnish the Royal Palace of Caserta<\/strong> and transferred after 1870 to the Quirinale Palace in Rome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Megalithic Sardinia at the MANN<\/strong> – National Archaeological Museum of Naples<\/strong> until September 11, 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSardinia Megalithic Island. From Menhirs to Nuraghes: Stories of Stone in the Heart of the Mediterranean<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> is at the MANN<\/strong> National Archaeological Museum of Naples<\/strong> until September 11.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition <\/strong>describes the millennia-old history of the island told in a large international exhibition. Sardinia Megalithic Island<\/strong> thus reveals to the public suggestive stories, material testimonies, fascinating civilizations,<\/strong> many of which are still waiting to be discovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Promoted by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Department of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Commerce, in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia<\/a><\/strong> and, for the Neapolitan stop, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the event has received the Patronage of MAECI and MIC and benefits from the collaboration of the Sardinia Foundation and the general coordination of Villaggio Globale International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bronze Patriarch of the Caravaggisti at the Museum and Royal Park of Capodimonte<\/strong> until October 2, 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Museum and Royal Park of Capodimonte<\/strong> presents the major monographic exhibition The Bronze Patriarch of the Caravaggisti:<\/strong> Battistello Caracciolo<\/a><\/strong>, who has gone down in history as the main Caravaggist artist, even receiving the same title of “bronze patriarch”<\/strong> from Roberto Longhi, a renowned art historian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On display are about 80 works<\/strong>, coming from public institutions, both Italian and foreign, ecclesiastical entities, and private collectors. At the Royal Palace<\/strong><\/a>, visitors can see the hall of the Gran Capitano frescoed by Battistello Caracciolo<\/strong><\/a>, while at the Certosa and Museum of San Martino<\/strong>, the exhibition path divides between the chapels of the Assumption, San Gennaro, San Martino, and in the Choir of the Church<\/strong>, as well as in the rooms dedicated to Battistello in the gallery of the Prior’s Quarter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cbronze patriarch of the Caravaggisti\u201d<\/strong> is part of the exhibition program on artists from Naples and beyond who have had a close relationship with the city of Naples: Picasso, Jan Fabre, Santiago Calatrava, Luca Giordano, Vincenzo Gemito, Salvatore Emblem, Battistello Caracciolo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case, the exhibition The Bronze Patriarch of the Caravaggisti<\/strong> is also connected to Beyond Caravaggio<\/a><\/strong>, inaugurated – also at Capodimonte<\/strong> – last March 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition Beyond Caravaggio. A New Narrative of Painting in Naples<\/strong> and the 200 works included in the display occupy the 24 rooms<\/strong> on the second floor of the Museum and Royal Park of Capodimonte<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond Caravaggio. A New Narrative of Painting in Naples <\/strong>delves deeper into the so-called Neapolitan Seicento, rediscovered and analyzed by art historian Roberto Longhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the naturalism of Caravaggio<\/strong> would be the backbone of Neapolitan art<\/strong>, but it is also important to highlight and give value to the work of another artist present on the Neapolitan scene during the same period, namely Jusepe de Ribera<\/a>, a Spaniard who arrived in Naples in 1616, six years after Caravaggio’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond Caravaggio. A New Narrative of Painting in Naples<\/strong> presents Ribera<\/strong> and his sacred, mythological, and still life works, at the center of the Neapolitan artistic scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
