The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/a><\/strong> presents From Donatello to Alessandro Vittoria, 1450 – 1600. 150 years of sculpture in the Republic of Venice<\/a>.<\/strong> The exhibition<\/strong>, which began on April 22<\/strong>, will conclude on October 30, 2022. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first exhibition dedicated to Venetian sculpture<\/strong> and not to painting<\/strong>, which is generally the preferred medium for exhibitions, to take place in the lagoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The venue: Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This noble palace, located in the Cannaregio<\/strong> district, was built in 1424 at the behest of Marino Contarini<\/strong>, a Venetian merchant and nobleman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It owes its name, Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/strong>, to the layer of gold – unfortunately lost – that once adorned its facade and is known as one of the finest examples of Venetian Gothic<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/strong> was purchased by Baron Franchetti<\/strong>, after whom it is named, at the end of the 19th century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition path <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The noble floor of Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/strong> and the works<\/strong> displayed here offer visitors the opportunity to explore materials<\/strong>, various sculptural techniques<\/strong>, and their expressive potentials.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition path<\/strong> consists of important loans<\/strong> from national and international institutions and private collections<\/strong>, framing a historical-artistic period<\/strong> that is certainly broad, ranging from the Renaissance to the late Mannerism<\/strong>, which brought stylistic and iconographic changes to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Donatello to Alessandro Vittoria, 1450 – 1600. 150 years of sculpture in the Republic of Venice<\/strong> is curated by Toto Bergamo Rossi<\/strong>, director of Venetian Heritage<\/strong>, and Claudia Cremonini<\/strong>, director of the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro<\/strong> thus hosts an important collection of works and sculptures<\/strong> created by some of the most significant artists who worked in Venice<\/strong> and its territories between the 15th and 17th centuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these are, of course, Donatello<\/strong>, but also Mantegna<\/a>, Antonio Rizzo, Pietro, Tullio, and Antonio Leonardo, up to Jacopo Sansovino and Alessandro Vittoria.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An itinerant exhibition for the city<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From Donatello to Alessandro Vittoria, 1450 – 1600.<\/strong> does not end in the halls of the Gallery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
