The Rooms of Photography<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Rooms of Photography<\/a> <\/strong>are configured as an international center<\/strong> for research and enhancement of photography<\/strong> and the culture of images.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exhibitions and reviews will be organized in Venice<\/strong> and other Italian cities, workshops, meetings,<\/strong> in the belief that photography should continue to have its specific home in Venice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was Ugo<\/strong> Mulas<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ugo Mulas<\/a><\/strong> was born near Brescia<\/a><\/strong> on August 28, 1928.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He moved to Milan<\/a><\/strong>, studied law but did not complete his studies. He began frequenting the Jamaica bar<\/strong>, a meeting place for intellectuals and artists. In 1954<\/strong>, he produced his first official report at the Venice Biennale.<\/strong> The following year, his first photographs were published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1964, during the Biennale<\/strong>, the Pop Art<\/strong> movement, which originated in the United States in the 1950s and 60s,<\/strong> was presented to the European public for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulas<\/strong> met artists of the caliber of Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg.<\/strong> In the years to come, he collaborated with many other artists, both Italian and foreign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He died in Milan<\/strong> in 1973.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition Ugo Mulas. The Photographic Operation<\/a><\/strong> coincides with the 50th anniversary of the author’s passing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An exhibition path<\/strong> that unfolds in more than 300 images,<\/strong> including 30 photographs<\/strong> never exhibited before, documents, books, publications, films,<\/strong> offers a synthesis capable of providing a reading that opens up to the various experiences faced by Ugo Mulas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulas<\/strong>, who began his career as a self-taught artist, quickly understands that being a photographer involves providing a critical testimony of society<\/strong>, and it is this awareness that shapes his first reports between 1953 and 1954.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He captures the suburbs of Milan<\/strong> and the artistic and cultural environment<\/strong> of the early fifties at the famous Bar Jamaica,<\/strong> of which he was a regular patron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulas<\/strong> quickly establishes himself in various fields of photography, from fashion to advertising, publishing in numerous magazines such as “Settimo Giorno,” “Rivista Pirelli,” “Domus,” “Vogue.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
