When Surrealism Was Born and What It Is<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 1924<\/strong>, in Paris<\/strong>, the artist and writer Andr\u00e9 Breton<\/strong> published the collection \u201cPoisson Soluble.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The introduction would become the First Manifesto of Surrealism<\/strong>, inaugurating one of the most important avant-gardes of the 20th century<\/strong>, founded on the irrational, the dreamlike dimension<\/strong>, and the deepest and intrinsic aspects<\/strong> of the human soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Surrealists<\/strong> focus precisely on the human psyche<\/strong>, overcoming or attempting to overcome the limits imposed by reason, thus expanding reality beyond its physical boundaries and tapping into a dimension of existence<\/strong> that is beyond the real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the main themes<\/strong> that animate surrealism<\/strong>, we find love<\/strong> as the core of life<\/strong>,
dream and madness<\/strong> considered as means to transcend rationality<\/strong> and the liberation<\/strong> of the individual from social conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything rational is criticized in favor of the imaginative potentials<\/strong> of the unconscious that inevitably lead to the condition of “<\/em>surreality“<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Especially in art<\/strong>, images harmoniously and profoundly reconcile, creating clear and real<\/strong> representations even though they are juxtaposed without any logical connection and are often, from the outset, unreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the liberation of the individual<\/strong>, from which the Surrealists<\/strong> drew inspiration primarily from Freud<\/strong>‘s studies on psychoanalysis, they also pursued the ideal of a liberation of society<\/strong> in a political sense, often aligning with progressive and anti-colonialist positions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, Surrealism<\/strong>, given the multiplicity of its aspects and implications, can be framed as a true attitude<\/strong>, an alternative way of being and conceiving the world, a completely new way of thinking capable of transforming the lives of those who, over time, have adopted it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dal\u00ed, Magritte, Man Ray and Surrealism: Masterpieces from the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is on this fundamental concept that the multiple themes of the new exhibition \u201cDal\u00ed, Magritte, Man Ray and Surrealism: Masterpieces from the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> develop, featuring a core of as many as 180 works.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Included in the exhibition path are paintings, sculptures, drawings, documents, and artifacts<\/strong>, all from the collection<\/strong> of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam<\/strong>, one of the most important museums in the Netherlands<\/strong>, in dialogue with some works from the Permanent Collection of the Mudec in Milan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
