de Chirico: Biographical Notes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Giorgio de Chirico<\/a><\/strong> was born in Volos<\/strong>, a city in Thessaly, Greece<\/strong>, on July 10, 1888, to Italian parents belonging to the nobility, Evaristo de Chirico and Gemma Cervetto,<\/strong> a baroness of Genoese origin. Both parents were born in Constantinople.<\/strong> For the first seventeen years of his life, the family lived in Greece<\/strong> between Volos and Athens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giorgio<\/strong> de Chirico<\/strong> first arrived in Italy in the 1930s and then moved permanently to Rome, after some time, in 1944.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He died in Rome<\/a><\/strong> in 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Exhibition in Pistoia<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

de Chirico<\/a><\/strong> returns to exhibit in Pistoia<\/a><\/strong>, specifically at Palazzo de Rossi<\/strong>, after 40 years as part of the project “In Visit<\/strong>“, within the permanent collection 20th Century Collections<\/strong> of Pistoia Musei<\/a> at Palazzo de\u2019 Rossi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the work “Mannequins by the Sea<\/a><\/strong>” which de Chirico<\/strong> created at the height of his success in 1926, combining the theme of classicism<\/strong> with the themes of early Metaphysics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Visit Giorgio de Chirico<\/strong> contrasts Mannequins by the Sea<\/strong> with the head of<\/strong> Faustina the Elder<\/strong><\/a>, a masterpiece of Roman art dated to the 2nd century AD, generally housed at the Ancient Palace of the Bishops and now once again on public display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Roman head<\/strong>, acquired by the Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia<\/strong> in 1983, is linked to de Chirico also because it was studied by Raissa Calza<\/strong>, the artist’s partner and later wife.<\/p>\n\n\n

After the first appointment of In visita<\/strong>, which featured two Kore<\/strong> by Fausto Melotti<\/strong><\/a> and Pomona by Marino Marini<\/strong>, the curators Monica Preti, Annamaria Iacuzzi, and Cristina Taddei<\/strong> now bring into dialogue two works that are chronologically distant from each other, both from the Collections of Intesa Sanpaolo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
