Letizia Battaglia<\/strong> was one of the most important Italian photographers of this century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just over a year after her passing, which occurred on April 13 of last year, at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome,<\/strong> the exhibition “Letizia Battaglia Senza Fine”<\/em><\/strong> was inaugurated, a grand tribute to the photographer who dedicated her life and career to civic engagement and causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Letizia Battaglia Senza Fine”<\/em><\/strong> will be open until November 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letizia Battaglia: biographical notes <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Letizia Battaglia<\/strong> was born in Palermo<\/strong> on March 5, 1935.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout her career<\/strong>, which began in 1969 at the age of 34, she narrated Sicily<\/strong> by capturing moments that became part of history, especially during the years of lead – starting from 1974 – such as the assassination of Piersanti Mattarella<\/strong> or that of Judge Cesare Terranova<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Letizia Battaglia<\/strong> quickly became an internationally renowned photographer<\/strong> not only for being the “photographer of the mafia<\/strong>” or as she preferred to be called, “humble photographer of Palermitan tragedies<\/strong>“, but also for her ability to capture the traditions<\/strong> of her city, its faces, neighborhoods, and streets.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Letizia Battaglia Senza Fine”<\/em><\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“Letizia Battaglia Senza Fine”<\/em><\/strong> unfolds through the Baths of Caracalla<\/strong> with ninety-two photographs<\/strong>, installed on crystal stands as if they were elements of a forest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition features the shots for which Letizia Battaglia<\/strong> became a symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Images as tools to denounce the wounds caused by terrorism, the trails of blood and death, the dramatic booms<\/strong> orchestrated by the mafia in Sicily<\/strong> during the Seventies and Eighties<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition<\/strong> is an opportunity to admire the shots of Battaglia<\/strong>, in black and white because they seek truth rather than conventional beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition<\/strong> concludes with a shot from 2020 of Olimpia<\/strong>, a young mother on the beach of Mondello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
