Director Eva Degl’Innocenti: “We speak to the future ruling class”
The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto – MArTA is a 21st-century agora, a center for education and research, a space for life, dialogue, and sharing, in a continuous thrust towards the future.
For us, the future is also a modern communicative expression to speak to everyone and to the “non-public.” Thus, after the great success of donations for the Christmas cards of MArTA, which allowed for gifting a 3D virtual tour inside the three exhibition floors of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (about 13,000 accesses), today we are also on Tik Tok.
Our arrival on this mass communication channel is part of the continuous work process we have conceived from the very beginning as a project of territorial co-creation.
Alongside the seminar appointments for in-depth studies that we continue to disseminate through Facebook and YouTube, the history of the men and women, the civilizations that have characterized this Euro-Mediterranean territory that our artifacts narrate, are also clips of a few seconds that intrigue, educate, and contribute to development.

The activity of MArTA on social media is also “care” and curation: like management, education and research, conservation, protection, and enhancement. This “care” allows us to share and pass on cultural heritage, using all the languages required by modernity, to hand it over to the new ruling class of the future.
Culture is not static; it needs active citizenship capable of sharing, transmitting, and narrating it, regenerating it also in the communicative style, while preserving its historical, human, social value, and potential for development.
It is a living culture that walks on the legs of men and women of all ages and from every social background.
The new audience arriving through Tik Tok is represented by thousands of “likes” in just a few days and a target demographic ranging from 8 to 25 years old.
Intensive zooms with stories of individual artifacts, the “MArTA pop” with dialogues between statues and iconographies, have been our first approaches to go beyond mere creative trends of the social network, while continuing to pursue the vision of archaeology for the future, capable of enriching and giving new life to our cultural heritage.
This is the “Past for future” of MArTA: knowing the past to understand the present and build the future.
The Tik Tok channel of the Museum @martamuseo is already active with contributions from inclusive linguistic registers.
