Works and masterpieces on display

Curated by the Centre Pompidou in collaboration with the Grand Palais, the exhibition focuses on the last thirteen years of Henri Matisse’s activity, marked by illness but also by unprecedented creative freedom.

The path brings together over 230 works including paintings, drawings, collages, illustrated books, and large decorative panels. At the center of the exhibition are the gouaches découpées, which originated as a practical solution and became an autonomous artistic form, capable of merging painting, sculpture, and architecture.

Alongside iconic works such as the Nus bleus and the plates from Jazz, the exhibition explores the dialogue between color, rhythm, and surface, showing how Matisse transformed physical limitation into an extraordinary expansion of visual language. A corpus of works that will profoundly influence the art of the late twentieth century, from abstraction to design.
